THEY’RE BRISAS, SIR. BRISAS.
Leiria is filled with stories about how Brisas do Liz came about.
Some say they were first produced by the Santana Convent’s nuns, known for their delicious delicacies.
Others point to the bosom of a recognised family in the city of Leiria, friendly relations and a dizzying journey through space and time across the Atlantic to Angola, all the way back in the early twentieth century.
In Leiria, Brisas do Liz made their first public appearance in the Old Colonial Café, with the pastry chefs who make them so masterfully having since multiplied, raising their status to the “city’s sweetest secret”!
And it is this secret, which has still never been revealed, that was in the race to become one of Portugal’s 7 Sweet Wonders, having reached the final and competed against 13 other sweets.
