This small sanctuary is notable for its long staircase and fantastic views of the city.
Architecturally, the building has a beautiful galilee of complete arches overlooking the main door’s central access arch. The interior is covered with polychromatic, patterned seventeenth-century tiles and stone paintings to honour the Virgin Mary and Saint Gabriel placed over the main door.
The beauty of the sanctuary is completed by the intense, diversely populated grove that surrounds it.
Legend has it that the chapel located on this site was dedicated to the Angel Gabriel until a miracle led to the present chapel being built in 1588.
Our Lady of the Incarnation is the patron saint of the city of Leiria, and her annual feast is held on the 15th August.
