The Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount is located in the parish of Cortes near the highest point in the municipality of Leiria, Maunça.

The chapel is simple, with a small porch and a viewpoint over farmland, the city of Leiria and from which, on clear days, you can even see the sea.

Legend has it that, facing a huge storm and fearing for his life in the late fourteenth century, Diogo Gil promised to build a chapel on the first hill that he saw if the storm subsided.

The storm soon subsided, and Diogo Gil fulfilled his promise.
