This is a small shrine, with a lovely galilee topped with round arches. The center arch gives access to the main gate and its interior is covered with 17th-century multi-coloured tiles and votive paintings dedicated to the Virgin and St. Gabriel, whose stone statues watch over the main door.
Bishop D. Miguel de Bulhões e Sousa ordered a monumental staircase with 162 steps, which gives the shrine a majestic appearance.
The dense woods around the shrine are also an important part of its charm and the view over the city is a unique experience. Our Lady of the Incarnation is Leiria’s patron saint, her feast is on 15th August, and it includes a procession starting at the nearby church of St. Augustine, the patron saint of the diocese, and the city also celebrates the Assumption.
