And makes Leiria the epicentre of the Gothic community, who meet here to celebrate a style of music and way of life.

With 10 years’ worth of stories to tell, the festival turns Leiria into the capital of Gothic culture, bringing thousands of fans to the city and helping people relate to this ‘new’, ‘different’ culture, naturally.

The festival’s original name, Entremuralhas, comes from the stage of the festival having been the castle itself, contributing to the melancholy and romanticism of the Gothic atmosphere of the event.

Forced out of the castle walls in 2018 due to building work being carried out, the event was renamed Extramuralhas but didn’t lose its position as an international reference, taking the festival to other parts of the city and allowing for the line-up to be expanded further than ever before.

In 2022, the 11th edition will divide the concerts by the Castle and the historical center of Leiria between August 25th and 27th.

Zola Jesus, Zeal & Ardor, Circuit des Yeux, Whispering Songs, HMLTD, Vomito Negro are some of the names that will “gothify” Leiria for 3 days.
