Author of several reference compositions of new Portuguese music, always in Portuguese, it was more than 10 years ago that he embarked on what would be his first studio adventure, with Toranja, marking forever the Portuguese musical panorama.
The rich simplicity of his poems and melodies quickly captured the public’s attention with the albums “Esquissos” and “Segundo”, whose unforgettable songs like “Carta” and “Laços” are inseparable from his remarkable voice.
In 2006, Toranja announced a long break and it was then that Tiago Bettencourt left for Canada and, with Mantha as a support band, recorded the album “Jardim” (Garden), produced by Howard Bilerman (producer of Arcade Fire’s “Funeral”) and released in 2007 with hits like “Canção Simples”, “O Jogo”, “O Lugar” and “O jardim”.
In 2010, “Em Fuga” was released, also produced by Howard Bilerman, with the single “Só Uma Mais Volta” and songs like “Chocámos Tu e Eu” and “Caminho de Voltar”.
At the end of 2011, “Tiago na Toca e os Poetas” is released, in which, accompanied by a book, Tiago muses poems of Portuguese authors like Florbela Espanca, José Carlos Ary dos Santos or David Mourão Ferreira in the company of friends like Carminho, Camané, Fernando Tordo, Pedro Gonçalves (Dead Combo), among others.
On November 26, 2012 “Acústico” arrives in stores, an immense celebration where he brings together guests Lura and Jorge Palma, and, armed with the best moments of an exemplary career, marks a decade of many experiences and successes revealing one of the greatest national voices and one of the great authors of his generation.
In 2014, Tiago Bettencourt presents the new album “Do Princípio”, featuring 3 luxury collaborations: Jacques Morelenbaum, Mário Laginha and Fred Pinto Ferreira, in addition to his usual musicians.
2015 and 2016 were years dedicated to the live presentation of this last album, concerts where he did not miss all the great successes of his career. 2017 is marked by the release of his new album “A Procura”, a relentless journey that Tiago Bettencourt guides us through this sixth album of his career, between troubadour acoustics, pop and discrete electronics.
Besides being a multi-instrumentalist, he is also a producer, having been responsible for the production of records by Miúda, Katia Guerreiro, Raquel Tavares and Cláudia Pascoal (2020).
His contribution to Portuguese music is and always will be guided by good taste, discernment, and an infinite respect for his language, even though this has always limited his chances of internationalization.
Tiago Bettencourt takes the stage at 9:30 pm.
