Orquestra Jazz de Leiria (OJL), a project by the musician César Cardoso, was created in February 2011 with the objective of creating a quality formation that would gather the region’s musicians dedicated to the practice of this style of music.
Throughout its existence the orchestra has produced and performed dozens of concerts, many of them with special guests from various areas of Portuguese music. These concerts were specifically and individually prepared for each of the guest artists, who saw their music “rewritten”, adapted and arranged for the “Big Band” context.
In order to celebrate in the best way the first decade of existence, Orquestra Jazz de Leiria recorded its first album, with the intention of leaving its mark in the history of music in Portugal, to which it gave the name “Dez” (Ten).
“Dez” has the Sony Music stamp, and counts with the guests David Fonseca, Luísa Sobral, Áurea, Maria João, Pedro Abrunhosa, Ana Bacalhau, Vânia Fernandes, Camané, Jorge Palma, Pedro Moreira, Miguel Araújo, Tomás Pimentel, Herman José and António Zambujo, and also an unpublished theme written by David Fonseca and arranged by César Cardoso that will be the single of the album.
The repertoire present in the album is based on originals, Portuguese music and jazz standards, all of them with arrangements specifically made for the Leiria Jazz Orchestra by César Cardoso and Pedro Nobre.
The release event counts with the participation of David Fonseca, Luísa Sobral, Tomás Pimentel and Áurea.
“Dez” takes the stage at 9:30 pm.
