Orquestra Jazz de Leiria (OJL), a project created by the musician César Cardoso, was created in February 2011 with the aim of creating a quality formation that would bring together musicians from the region and dedicate themselves to the practice of this style of music.
The repertoire ranges from classics by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, to contemporary composers such as Mário Laginha, Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider, Claus Nymark, César Cardoso, Tomás Pimentel, Bernardo Sassetti, among others.
The collaborations with guests were very well received by the public.
Previous concerts have featured Vânia Fernandes, David Fonseca, Maria João, Herman José, Luísa Sobral, Áurea, Tiago Bettencourt, Pedro Abrunhosa, Ana Bacalhau, Camané, Sara Tavares, António Zambujo, Miguel Araújo, Jorge Palma, and Simone de Oliveira with arrangements by members of the orchestra.
OJL chooses artists from several areas and, for this concert, has chosen Salvador Sobral, one of today’s great musicians from the Portuguese musical panorama.
The repertoire for this show will include songs by Salvador Sobral, as well as some covers and also some Jazz standards.
As usual for each concert, also for this show specific and original arrangements will be made for OJL by members of the orchestra, which makes the show even more unique and special.
The curtains open at 7:30 pm.
