“Leiria 100 Years Ago” is back next weekend, with a historical recreation that will take us back to 1922 and with the participation of hundreds of extras.
During two days, the historical center of the city will be full of animation, with musical performances, traditional games, gastronomy with grazing houses and taverns, artisans and merchants, traditional commerce, Saturday and Sunday market, children’s games from other times and the Animal Farm, besides the opening of the exhibition “Agromuseum: A Centennial History”.
This “trip”, that takes us to revisit Leiria in 1922, will take place in the Largo do Papa Paulo VI, Jardim Luís de Camões, Largo Goa, Damão e Diu (Fonte Luminosa), Praça Rodrigues Lobo and Largo 5 de Outubro, and is organized by the Municipality of Leiria and the Folklore Association of the Region of Leiria – Alta Estremadura.
17 Folkloric Groups and 11 theater groups will participate in the event, besides the groups with recreational and educational activities, which will guarantee the fixed and itinerant animation in the City.
From the program, the highlight will be the concert “Leiria and Its People”, by the Sociedade Filarmónica Senhor dos Aflitos, which will take place on Saturday, the 11th, at 9:30 PM, near Rodrigues Lobo Square.
This initiative, which aims to show the history of the county to the people of Leiria and those who visit us, recreates the main events of a century ago, including the distribution of a newspaper with news allusive to that time.
“Leiria 100 Years Ago” has free entrance and “turn on the time machine” from 2 pm to midnight on Saturday and from 1 pm to 8 pm on Sunday.
